Deadpool Director Provides Update On Third Film
Will the Merc' with a Mouth survive the Disney-Fox merger?
One of the biggest questions coming out of Disney's acquisition of 20th Century Fox has been what will become of Deadpool. It never seemed as though the R-rated Merc' with a Mouth would go well with the Mouse House's family-friendly reputation, but chatter has since indicated that Marvel Studios are keen to retain the character going forward, and with Ryan Reynolds still behind the mask.
After all, both Deadpool and its sequel were unprecedented box-office successes, the kind of which has inspired other studios to pursue R-rated comic book films of their own. Seeing as how Disney are in the business of making money, it makes practically no sense for them to shake-up the series now, and it seems as though that's what Deadpool 2 director David Leitch has heard too.
While conducting press on the red carpet for Hobbs and Shaw, Leitch was asked to provide an update on Deadpool 3 by Comic Book, his own desire to return for the sequel, and why X-Men fans should remain patient when waiting for an official announcement in the future.
"In everybody's world, everybody wants to make it. So, if I was ever approached to make Deadpool 3, my answer would be, 'Hell yes,' but I think there's a lot of things going on in the shake up with Fox and Disney and where that whole Marvel world after Endgame is gonna be. When the dust settles, let's hope that Deadpool lives. That's kind of ironic, right?"
Although Leitch's comments stop just short of "Deadpool 3 is absolutely going to happen", they at least confirm that Disney are keen to use the character, which Kevin Feige reiterated a few months ago too.
Either way, expect more news to come at this weekend's Comic Con. Marvel are expected to peel back the lid on MCU Phase Four, and while Fox's properties are unlikely to feature, expect Feige to address them all the same.
