Death On The Nile Review: 6 Ups & 4 Downs

1. It's A Solid Improvement Over Murder On The Orient Express

Though Death on the Nile is hardly a great film, it is a fair improvement over the more uneven Murder on the Orient Express.

By focusing on a dishy melodramatic love story usurped by death and beefing up the budget considerably, this is a more fun, less-rigorous exercise that shows Branagh in more confident control of both his resources and his own lead character.

Basically if you enjoyed Orient you'll have a breezy fun time with this, which while hardly a definitive adaptation exploits its all-star cast and big budget for every drop they're worth.

Hopefully this won't be the last we see of the franchise, because Branagh's made it abundantly clear he's up for more, and he's clearly found himself a refreshingly modest blockbuster niche.
