20 Most Disappointing Horror Movies of the 2020s (So Far)

11. Wolf Man

Considering that Leigh Whannell did an incredible job against the odds with his 2020 reboot of The Invisible Man, it was fair to expect another strong showing with his recent take on The Wolf Man.

But even with Whannell's more psychological approach to the title character and solid central performances from Christopher Abbott and Julia Garner, Wolf Man proved to be a surprisingly dull, low-energy reinvention that simply lacked much sense of character or discernible flavour.

The film's overarching commentary on generational trauma felt at least a few years too late, the wolf design was a wildly mixed bag, and anyone expecting to see much of anything had to strain their eyes through the increasingly drab, washed-out visuals.

With this filmmaker and this cast Wolf Man had so, so much potential to be a fierce reimagining of a played-out IP, so what a flaming disappointment it was that it turned out so forgettably pedestrian.
