20 Most Disappointing Horror Movies of the 2020s (So Far)

Considering how terrific Leigh Janiak's trilogy of Fear Street movies were, expectations were understandably high for the fourth entry into Netflix's franchise based on R. L. Stine's teen horror novels.

With beloved source material to work from and acclaimed filmmaker Matt Palmer (Calibre) in the director's chair, it was easy to expect another winning slasher flick here, even with Janiak not returning to direct.

But man, what a crushing letdown this was.

Though it serves up a few memorable kills and the cast absolutely tries to make it work, Fear Street: Prom Queen is a massive step down from the original trilogy, serving up a more generic slasher flick with largely forgettable characters and a woefully predictable killer reveal.

And even as a fizzy '80s nostalgia piece, it feels like a pretty half-hearted homage in terms of its style and musical choices. 

At just 90 minutes in length, it's too short to get truly mad about, but following one of the more acclaimed slasher trilogies of the 2020s so far, this fourth entry wasn't nearly in the same league.
