Robert Rodriguez's Sin City was one of the most distinctive and unforgettable films of the 2000s - a gorgeously stylish, brilliantly acted adaptation of Frank Miller's comic book series, and one whose commercial success led Rodriguez to immediately get to work on a sequel.

However, Sin City: A Dame to Kill For was subject to repeated delays, with Miller blaming the Weinstein brothers for holding up production, all while the script and cast's schedules took years to iron out.

A Dame to Kill For was finally released in 2014 to staggering indifference, for though Eva Green gave a terrific performance as villainess Ava Lord, otherwise this sequel mostly felt like reheated nachos - less flavourful and biting than anything that came before it.

It remains a classic example of a sequel that just took way too long to come out and then failed to recapture the glory of its predecessor.
