20 Movies That Weren't Worth The Wait
1. The Ward
2010's horror film The Ward was John Carpenter's first movie in almost an entire decade, following up 2001's critical and commercial flop Ghosts of Mars.
This lower-budget, more confined psychological horror set inside a psych ward definitely had serious comeback potential for Carpenter, and basically every horror fan was rooting for the filmmaker to get back on terra firma after a run of less-than-stellar projects.
But there's no two ways around it - The Ward is awful, and the first of Carpenter's dud projects that also dares to be genuinely snoozy for large chunks of its runtime.
Though Amber Heard gives a solid performance in the lead role, if you can't see the deeply contrived, derivative plot twist coming a mile off, you probably need to watch more movies.
Yet the most depressing thing about Carpenter's failed comeback being so dire is that it's also the last movie he directed.
Considering how content the 78-year-old filmmaker seems watching basketball and playing video games these days - and he's certainly earned a retirement, no question - it'll probably end up being his final work, sadly.
