Disney's Fox Deal - 10 Properties That Will Be Selling Points For Disney+
3. The 2 Biggest Films Of All Time
James Cameron is truly a visionary director. If you discount his directorial debut, Piranha II: The Spawning (a job he was given on short notice near the end of production after originally being brought onboard to manage special effects), he has never made a poorly received film. This is a rare feat given that even the likes of Spielberg and Scorsese have the odd clunker in their vast filmographies.
Cameron has enjoyed a long relationship with Fox, who have distributed all of his films bar the first two entries in the Terminator franchise. Aliens, The Abyss and True Lies are minor but nevertheless impressive acquisitions for Disney in the grand scheme of things. More notable are the only two films he has made in the last twenty two years, which happen to be the two highest grossing films of all time – Titanic and Avatar.
Titanic was a one and done deal given its historical nature, but Cameron is investing a lot in the Avatar franchise given that he is currently shooting four sequels simultaneously. Should they be successful, Disney will have another mammoth franchise under their belt for Disney+. The fact that they have already opened Pandora Land within their Animal Kingdom park would indicate that they are certainly optimistic of the possibility.
