Disney's Fox Deal - 10 Properties That Will Be Selling Points For Disney+
2. The Best Of The Rest Of Television
The FX and adult animation properties now available to Disney have been mentioned already, but they are just a fraction of Fox’s television library, which dates back to the 1940s, 40 years before they became created their own station to rival the ABC/NBC/CBS triopoly in 1986.
Some of their most notable productions during that period include the 1960s Adam West starring Batman series (though there would be question marks about whether the Marvel-owning Disney would be able to put something featuring a DC character on Disney+) and M*A*S*H, which ran for eleven seasons in total.
Since the inception of their own channel, Fox have played host to Buffy The Vampire Slayer and its spin-off Angel, Jack Bauer in nine seasons of 24, Malcolm In The Middle (which is notoriously hard to get ahold of at present), Prison Break, Bones and the immortal Firefly, one of the greatest shows ever to be cancelled way before its time because of flagging ratings.
All of these are great televisual assets for Disney+, adding to what the company can already stack it with from their existing back catalogues at ABC (which gives them the likes of Lost, Scrubs and Grey’s Anatomy) and The Disney Channel.
All in all, the wealth of content available to Disney is frightening. Disney+ will almost certainly be a success given the clout of the House of Mouse, but time will tell if they usurp Netflix from the top of the streaming pile.
