Django Unchained: 10 Things You Didn't Know

1. The Original Script Includes A Character Called "Scotty" Who Falls In Love With Broomhilda

vibe-kerry-washington5 Tarantino has always said that he sees his original script and the finished movie as two separate works of art - that's to say, he writes things into his screenplays that he knows will never make it into the film. And though there are a few examples of segments which were ultimately chopped out of the movie that one might read in the script, the most notable section is one which concerns a character named Scotty - a role that Tarantino originally intended for Sasha Baron Cohen to play, and presumably later Jonah Hill (both of whom were unable to star). And it's rather a shame that the Scotty storyline was cut, since (for me, anyway) it's actually one of the most emotional and heartbreaking segments Tarantino has ever written. Scotty, for all purposes, is a young and naive man who becomes attached to Broomhilda when he is made her companion by his father. Soon enough, Scotty is caught in an intense battle with Calvin Candie in a gambling den, and is shot and killed. As this scene was never filmed, you'll only find it buried within Tarantino's original script - and I certainly recommend you seek it out. Like this article?
