Doctor Sleep Trailer Breakdown: 10 Things You Need To See

8. The Shining Revisited

Doctor Sleep Trailer
Warner Bros.

To the delight of horror fans across the globe, this trailer does officially confirm that the film will indeed be acting as a sequel to the original film, with nostalgic shots of little Danny Torrance riding his tricycle down the halls of the Overlook, peeking into Room 237, and even of the blood crashing through the elevator doors.

Intriguingly, the only one of these shots that is actually repurposed footage from The Shining, though, is the elevator shot. Everything else has been painstaking recreated and shot new, as was confirmed by Flanagan himself.

Considering that Flanagan and co. obviously had access to the original footage, the choice to go to all the effort of reshooting it precisely is obviously a deliberate one.

While this could mean any number of things, my money would be on this meaning the lady from Room 237 will be making a return in the film. It’s kind of mentioned in passing that she continued to haunt Danny for years in the novel, but we never really experience it from his point of view.

If she makes a proper return in the film, it would make perfect sense for Flanagan to go to such trouble to reshoot her introductory scenes from The Shining, so they can insert their own actress for the character into those scenes.
