Doctor Strange: 10 Reasons Benedict Cumberbatch Is Perfect

4. He Knows A Bit About Comics

How much of a nerd is Benedict Cumberbatch? Chris Evans had already played the Human Torch before he was cast as Captain America, and Mark Ruffalo was a life-long fanboy before finally landing the part of The Hulk - their geek credentials going into the Marvel Cinematic Universe were well-established. Like Chris Hemsworth, Cumberbatch has also appeared in one of the rebooted Star Trek films, but he's also flashed his nerd card on a few ocassions. The actor has taken a few trips to San Diego Comic-Con over the last few years, but it was this year that people started bothering him with questions about the rumoured Doctor Strange casting. He shot back with a misdirect - "it couldn€™t work out because I€™m doing a little play called Hamlet in London" - along with a geeky shout-out when asked what other superheroes he'd like to play - "Nurse Normal? Wait for it. Wait for it. Let the penny drop. € OK, that€™s a joke about Doctor Strange." Or maybe even a reference to actual character Night Nurse?
