A common complaint held against the MCU is that some of the movies struggle to find a balance of tone, resulting in an excess of smart-a** quipping to try and compensate for some of the darker elements.

This reached its unbearable zenith in Avengers: Age of Ultron, where the one-liners were hurled out with such robotic efficiency it became actively distracting.

Doctor Strange nails a far better balance, because while it's full of wry sarcasm and hilarious visual gags, it also knows when to rein things in for a more stern chat about mortality, or to allow the audience to actually take the villain's threats seriously.

This is pretty much the exact tone Marvel should aim for in all their movies, prioritising fun above all else but not making it feel harmlesssly inconsequential as a result.
