Doctor Strange: 10 Reasons It's Awesome
3. The Villain Is Surprisingly Good
The underwhelming likes of Whiplash, The Mandarin, Malekith and Ronan have caused many fans to declare that the MCU has a "villain problem", and outside of their core mainstays struggles to craft compelling baddies compared to the heroes they face off against.
While few are going to come out of Doctor Strange praising Kaecilius (Mads Mikkelsen) as a villain on the level of Loki or Helmut Zemo, and Mikkelsen certainly could have been put to stronger use, he's still a sturdy bad guy with a comprehensible logic to his dastardly plan. Plus, he's surprisingly funny, too.
Kaecilius is largely absent from the movie's first act but gets to participate in most of the movie's mind-blowing set-pieces later on, and serves as an above-average threat for the standards of the MCU.
