Doctor Strange: 25 WTF Moments
22. The Rag-Doll Physics
For 98% of the time, the effects in Doctor Strange are flat-out incredible: not only are they some of the most inventive sequences ever committed to film (let alone this genre), they also actually suit 3D presentation rather than making everyone feel sick. They're trippy, they're incredibly imaginative and they deserve to win several Oscars when that time comes around.
Unfortunately, the other 2% of the time is reserved for what can best be described as Matrix Rag Doll effects. As in the Matrix sequels, the attempt to completely computer render human figures and have them jump or fall great distances produces a horrible, unrealistic effect that drags you relentlessly out of the film. It's in no way ruinous, but the effect of having such great effects next to such poor ones (as in the opening of Civil War, actually) is horribly off-putting.
