Doctor Strange: 25 WTF Moments
21. The Ancient One Just Sort Of Gives Up On Kaecilius
The opening sequence sees Mads Mikkelsen's Kaecilius breaking into the library in Kamar-Taj, killing the unfortunate (and horribly under-equipped librarian) and running off with the precious pages of the mystical text explaining how to access the Dark Dimension. The Ancient One gives chase, but he evades capture.
You might assume at this point that the Ancient One - knowing the potentially catastrophic impact those stolen pages could have on all of existence - might do something to chase them down. She can see multiple possible futures, after all, so she can probably work out where Kaecilius might reappear and where he might be found, so it probably wouldn't be all that hard. Particularly as she's basically the most powerful entity in the universe (since even Dormammu seems to fear - or respect - her power).
Instead, she just sort of shrugs and lets him get away. She doesn't even attempt to use the Eye Of Agamotto to turn back time and catch Kaecilius in the act, despite her knowing how to use it and having no qualms about messing with the "natural order of things". In the end, it just looks careless.
Luckily though, Kaecilius just buggers off quietly for a few months while the Ancient One trains up the Chosen One. It's pretty handy that he didn't attack before Strange was perfectly ready...
