Doctor Strange is, of course, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, so you can expect plenty of nods to the wider superhero world. Given how the pre-magical parts are set in New York, that'll likely mean nods to Avengers Tower and Spidey, although with so much world-bending promised, who knows what else?

One reference from the film was revealed in the preview: according to ComicBook.com, before his life-changing car crash, Stephen Strange is called by his assistant and told "I've got a 45 year old Marine Colonel, crushed his lower spine in some kind of experimental armour". So yeah, the movie starts during the events of Civil War, with Strange originally pegged to operate on an injured War Machine.
