Following on from the reality-warping consequences of Wandavision, Loki and Spider-Man: No Way Home, Dr. Strange in the Multiverse of Madness serves to continue the MCU's shift to wholly new threats, as the MCU is exposed to universes beyond their own.

Sam Raimi returns to the superhero stage since the end of the original Tobey Maguire Spider-Man trilogy in 2007, and his directorial style shines.

Here, Strange is tasked with protecting the young superpowered girl, America Chavez, whilst facing various otherwordly threats. These new threats test Strange and push him to his absolute limits as he grapples with the question of fulfilment and happiness on his chosen path, post-Endgame.

Wanda Maximoff returns following her stint on her own show in Westview, WandaVision, now in direct conflict with the Sorcerers of Kamar-Taj in her quest to be reunited with her sons. With such high stakes, the MCU Earth serves as ground zero for an epic clash for the fate of the multiverse as we know it.

Understandably there is a LOT to cover with this movie, so let's delve into how Stephen Strange's latest adventure will impact the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

10. Corrupted Dr Strange

Whilst alternate versions of Dr Strange have taken a dark path ("What If?" Dr Strange springs to mind), mainline MCU Strange has always remained righteous, albeit calculated.

With Wanda serving as a threat way beyond his capabilities, Strange resorted to relying on 'dream-walking' and some necromancy, thanks to the Darkhold. Wong was truly shocked at the lengths Strange had resorted to in stopping Scarlet Witch's rampage.

This has been called out by various parties (including the members of the Illuminati) but it was ultimately successful in saving the day. The end of the movie seemed to showcase Strange finding fulfilment in his life, as he accepts Wong's authority as the Sorcerer Supreme, before moving on with his life.

However this all turned out to be the calm before the storm, as just before we cut to credits, it's shown that usage of the Darkhold has begun to corrupt Strange and caused him to resemble his dark self by developing a third eye.

With that in mind, we could see Stephen Strange grappling with his inner demons in upcoming movies, or face another Strange as an antagonist as Wanda did here.
