America gets a moment to explain her backstory to Strange when the pair happen upon a literal "memory lane" interface which relays some of their most deep-seated memories back to them.

In America's case it's the traumatic maybe-deaths of her mothers in her youth, who are sucked into a portal unintentionally created by a young America when she gets scared of a wasp.

Though America feels tremendous guilt over "killing" her mothers, Strange reminds her that it's entirely possible they're still alive in whichever universe they ended up in, and she could find them one day.

While the vague, fleeting inclusion of America's lesbian parents feels like yet another bout of spineless queer-baiting on the part of Disney, America's backstory is at least relatively similar to that in the comics where she also has two mothers.
