Dream Casting Nic Cage's Tiger King Series

5. James Garretson - John Goodman

Nic Cage Tiger King
Gramercy Pictures

One of the men primarily responsible for the incarceration of Joe Exotic, the role of James Garretson is likely to be a 'bulky' one. The casting of an actor with a suitable physique and demeanour to Garretson would be an intriguing casting decision, with the need to create an endearing, dorky persona for a man who appears as crooked as any of the Tiger King 'cast'.

While getting a little on in years, John Goodman still seems the ideal man to bring Garretson's less than reputable character to life. There is no doubting Goodman's wonderful acting capabilities and he is definitely a physical fit for the role, but his suitability doesn't stop there. The voices of Garretson and Goodman have a striking similarity, a slight gruffness and similar alliteration.

Should Goodman not come to the table or prove a little too old for the role, then our back up choice would be none other than Seth Rogen. While primarily a comedian, Rogen has an affability that would match Garretson's friendly demeanour, while also bringing some comic timing to the cringeworthy moments when his character tries to look cool on a Jet ski.
