Dream Casting Nic Cage's Tiger King Series

1. Doc Antle - Matthew McConaughey

Nic Cage Tiger King
HBO

The character of Doc Antle will no doubt be front and centre for any Tiger King movie. A key criteria in the casting of this pivotal role would be the acquisition of a top line actor with the experience of playing characters who believe they're a hero, when they're very much a villain. An actor with great acting depth and a strong screen presence would be essential, as well as the very important ability to pull off the long hair look.

Since ditching the Rom-Com genre, Matthew McConaughey has undertaken a number of quality villainous/anti-hero roles in films such as Mud and Magic Mike, and looks the perfect fit for Antle. His charismatic nature and charm will be perfect in depicting the 'front' that Antle likes to put up, but it would be in the exploration of the darker side of the 'Doc' where McConaughey would excel. McConaughey is an actor who seems willing to go places that may scare other actors off, so more confronting scenes exploring the dubious manner in which Antle interacts with his wives/employees would no doubt be eaten up.

If our number one choice is unavailable, then the next best man to fulfil the role of Doc would be none other than Russell Brand. There is no doubt that Brand would be perfect in portraying the manic mannerisms of Antle, and would be perfect if our film went more down the comedic path rather than the dramatic route.
