3. Danny DeVito & Eva Green's Entertaining Performances

Though much of the ensemble cast finds themselves at a loss, that's certainly not the case with Danny DeVito and Eva Green, who give easily the best (human) performances in the film.

DeVito is an utterly delight as circus ringmaster Max Medici, who couldn't seem much happier to be reunited with Tim Burton, chewing the scenery for the cheap seats but also bringing some unexpected humanity to the character later in the movie.

Green is meanwhile luminous as Colette Marchant, a French trapeze artist who forms a poignant connection with Dumbo throughout the film. Green's reputation for elevating middling material continues to remain in tact.
