Dune: 5 Reasons It Will Be A Massive Hit (And 5 Reasons It Will Flop)

7. It'll Hit: The Action

Dune is a thick, dense book that kicks off its story with a lot of worldbuilding and character development, introducing readers to a host of characters in an alien universe. After that though, it is off to the races. If any potential readers are intimidated by Dune's length, be assured that it continues to pick up steam as it goes along, becoming a top-tier page turner that dares you to put it down.

As Paul Atreides navigates the political and social environment of Arrakis, he is beset by challenges worthy of any action hero. He must use his psychic powers and expert military training to engage in hand-to-hand combat, lead a rebellion and survive the numerous attempts made on his life by his rivals, the sinister and brutal House Harkonnen.

The tension, scale and fireworks the novel provides can compete with any of the tentpole superhero franchises out there today. While people tend to focus on the philosophical and thematic underpinnings present in the novel, they often fail to mention that the story is at its heart an sci-fi action adventure that spans galaxies.

What's more, the violence and warfare tends to be brutal yet poignant. Fans of Game of Thrones politicking, betrayals, and massive battles will find much to love in Dune since no punches are pulled and the stakes are extremely high. As long as the edges aren't sanded down, Dune's intense action will give cinema goers a veritable feast of explosions and violence.
