Each Member Of The Fellowship Of The Ring Ranked Worst To Best
8. Pippin Took
Despite being great comic relief and acting as a very likeable character, Pippin easily fits at the lower end of the list. Portrayed by actor Billy Boyd, the film-makers are unapologetic in their presentation of Pippin.
From the beginning of the first film, we see him as a goofy character, and despite Merry having a similar depiction, it's clear that within this duo one is the brains and one the impulse. He finds himself locked into the adventure as a result of stumbling into Frodo and Sam and not his own choice.
The biggest issue with Pippin is that as a member of the team, he causes more problems than he solves, and the only significant contributions he makes are solely by accident. For example, one of his most significant mishaps was in wanting to hold the Palantir; through this, Sauron directly interrogated him. Luckily for Pippin, this led to him gaining an insight into the enemies plan.
Through making the majority of Pippin's best moments in the series accidental, he is stripped of agency, and his actions seem too much of a result of luck.
The issue with Pippin is that as a team member, he seems far more of a detriment than a help. He has some moments of brilliance, but his consistent mistakes outweigh them.
