Edgar Wright: The Definitive Guide To Homages, Influences And References

The World's End - The Good Companions As a name, The Good Companions pub isn€™t important. However, the pub€™s logo on its boards is €“ it features five masks, with one smiling and the rest frowning. This can be a reference to one of two things. The more obvious theory is that the sign is a reference to Gary being the only person who appears absolutely pumped for the bar crawl, even after the fight in The Cross Hands. The other masks represent his friends, who weren€™t thrilled with the prospect to begin with and since the Blanks€™ revelation seem pretty much distraught. The second reference could be that the sign represents a foreshadowing of Oliver€™s fate. He€™s nabbed by The Network soon after this when he goes to the toilet, and is replaced by an always-smiling automaton.
