Along with genre classic An American Werewolf in London showing Wright that it was possible to mix horror and comedy together, the key inspiration for his rom-zom-com came from a Spaced sketch where Simon Pegg€™s character Tim hallucinates that he€™s warding off a zombie invasion after a marathon gaming session. It€™s easy to see the resemblance €“ the mix of geek culture, arrested development and simple horror can totally be transposed into Shaun of the Dead on a larger level. This, combined with Pegg and Wright€™s desire to create something on a bigger stage sowed the seeds for Shaun of the Dead.
