El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie Review - 7 Ups & 2 Downs
Downs...
2. The Distractingly Aged Cast
The somewhat unavoidable reality of having El Camino pick up immediately after (and during) the original series is that, with it being filmed six years after Breaking Bad concluded, the cast have all naturally aged.
And while in the case of Aaron Paul himself that's not particularly noticeable or distracting, several of the movie's other characters look comically older than the last time we saw them.
Skinny Pete (Charles Baker) in particular looks decidedly more weathered here, though most of the other aged actors can't be discussed in much detail for obvious, spoilerific reasons.
One star from the original series has transformed significantly enough over the last six years that their presence in flashbacks is both distracting and laughable.
It's not a deal-breaker when the writing, direction and performances are all so good, and there's not much Gilligan could've done about it. Even so, it draws attention to itself.
