4. The Production
Creative producers Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman are in charge of this picture, and given their track record I dont hold a lot of hope for them striking the right note for this movie. Theyve worked together for a number of years, on blockbusters such as The Island, Mission: Impossible 3, Transformers, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, Watchmen, Cowboys & Aliens and Star Trek. All of these films have something in common massive amounts of special effects and CGI. Now, thats not necessarily a bad thing; I like some of these movies (others were terrible however) and they have their place. Watchmen I particularly like, though not everyone would agree with me, and Cowboys & Aliens I found enjoyable, but I wouldnt try and defend it as a great film. Ultimately though, whilst their skills have their place, Enders Game is not one of them. For a science fiction book set in space in the future, its distinctly lacking in epic space battles and the high-technology action that youd expect. Its a story about the children, especially Ender himself, and surrounding people involved, humanitys work for survival as a whole and the lasting effect on the earth. It needs a more personal, understated touch, which is something not particularly evident in their previous work, though maybe 2012s People Like Us gives a glimmer of hope.
