Enola Holmes Review: 7 Ups & 3 Downs
1. It's Got Strong Franchise Potential
Despite its sale to Netflix earlier this year suggesting dim commercial prospects, Enola Holmes has all the makings of a hit franchise should it find a sizable enough audience.
With its fantastic leading lady, exceptional ensemble cast, and generally smart reinvention of a classic series, it's easy to see the film leading to a number of sequels, as was presumably the initial plan at Warner Bros.
Given that Netflix is still seeking out its first major movie franchise - especially with sequels to Bright and 6 Underground continually stalling - the prospect of a more modestly-budgeted series following-up this acclaimed effort seems like a mighty fine idea.
It remains to be seen whether or not the Netflix sale complicates anything contractually for the cast, but given the clear affection for the film already, Netflix would be daft not to pursue a sequel if the viewing figures can reflect its critical popularity.
