Enola Holmes Review: 7 Ups & 3 Downs

Downs...

3. It's A Bit Overstuffed

As much as the film is edited to be as breezy and pacy as possible, it's tough to deny that Enola Holmes is a little bit excessive on the story front, resulting in an indecently long 123-minute runtime.

The narrative sees Enola (Millie Bobby Brown) torn between two major plots, the disappearance of her mother Eudoria (Helena Bonham Carter), and aiding a young Lord, Viscount Lord Tewksbury (Louis Partridge), whose life is in danger.

Either of these plots probably would've been sufficient to carry a single movie on their own, but when you deal with both of them and pile on a sizeable roster of minor characters, it does begin feeling a bit too much of a muchness.

That's not to call the film a slog in any way, but simply that it drags its feet getting where it needs to go, following a few familiar breadcrumbs too many.
