Escape From New York Remake: 5 Actors To Star & 5 Who Should Stay Far Away

2. Gerard Butler

When the remake was first announced a while back, it was Gerard Butler's name that was bandied about to star as Snake Plissken. He had a big hit under his belt with 300 but that was such a hyper-masculine performance that it almost reached the point of parody. As time went on he had his chance to showcase his acting range and all we got were generic "thrillers," romantic comedies and his most recent Bruce Willis impersonation in Olympus Has Fallen. Butler simply has not shown nuance or subtlety, a quality an actor must have to play Plissken. Sure you can run around screaming at the top of your lungs in a loincloth but can you project a lifetime of tough decisions and close calls with a mere head nod? Kurt Russell could. (For those interested, Kurt Russell was asked his opinion of the remake and Butler when the project was announced so feel free to search out that interview for a good laugh.)

Michael spends far too much time watching movies and upgrading his ridiculously large DVD collection to Blu-Ray. He has returned to writing with the hope that one day he'll get paid for doing something he enjoys rather than watching a clock and praying for the weekend to arrive.
