Eternals: 10 Biggest Changes From The Comics

7. Sprite Has Hated The Eternals For A Long Time

Why Kirby thought that an eternal child was in any way a not messed up idea is beyond me, but Neil Gaiman was the first writer to take that idea and run with it.

During his seminal run on The Eternals, from which the movie draws from more than Kirby's original run, Gaiman gave all of The Eternals a much needed reimagining. But the most fascinating shift in character was Sprite.

Just as the other Eternals are the in-universe inspirations for certain myths and legends across the world, Sprite was the inspiration for pretty much every trickster deity or creature in mythology, such as leprechauns and fairies and so forth.

Gaiman expanded on that by making Sprite into a Machiavellian villain who has been plotting against The Eternals for centuries because, like the movie version, they hated that their creators had - for some stupid reason - trapped them in the body of a child.

This stands in stark contrast to the movie, where Sprite's betrayal comes off more like a spur of the moment choice.
