Every 2016 Comic Book Movie Ranked Worst To Best
11. Suicide Squad
Suicide Squad might well be the most disappointing movie of 2016, and for several reasons. Firstly, it fudged its talent (including the director), it fudged the potential of its material and it fudged the opportunity to kickstart the DCEU. But it also made a hell of a lot of money and strengthened the resolve of DC fanboys who didn't so much care about the film's quality, and more that people saw it to PROVE THE EVIL CRITICS WRONG (whether their sentiments were correct or otherwise).
The reality of Suicide Squad is that it is a movie that lost its way badly. It started with some promise, and a great cast, and there are flashes of brilliance in there, but the plotting and editing render is almost unwatchable and some of the characterisation (particularly of the horrible villains) is head-stompingly stupid.
The high points shouldn't be ignored - the ideas in the Joker's performance, Harley's appeal and Captain Boomerang's anti-hero charm were all diverting enough - but they were bundled in so much garbage that sifting out the good stuff was almost impossible.
