Every 2016 Disney Movie Ranked From Worst To Best
11. The Finest Hours
Rotten Tomatoes: 63%
Another book adaptation with a maritime theme, except this time one with a historical basis, The Finest Hours was slightly better received than The Light Between Oceans but only very slightly. Telling the true-life tale of the US Coast Guard crew who saved the lives of 32 of the stricken SS Pendleton’s crew during a violent storm off the coast of Massachusetts in 1952, the movie stars Chris Pine as the dashing hero of the story with support from co-stars Casey Affleck, Ben Foster and Eric Bana.
While it’s no Poseidon Adventure, it’s no Poseidon Adventure remake either and a solid enough disaster movie with a good cast and great visuals. Having a historical basis, it’s predictable to anyone with the ability to Google ‘SS Pendleton’ but where it veers into annoyingly predictable territory is its focus on the romance between Chris Pine and co-star Holliday Grainger’s characters – a superfluous bit of schmaltz not needed in an already emotional movie.
