4. The Fundamentals Of Caring
Though it clings a little too eagerly to the hip Sundance indie playbook, this drama about a disaffected former writer (Paul Rudd) caring for a young man with muscular dystrophy (Craig Roberts) manages to be an affecting ride.
Rudd and Roberts give strong performances and their chemistry is the main reason the movie succeeds, as well as the fact that the script stays on the right side of sentimental and doesn't go the misery porn route just for the sake of it.
The only real bugbear is that Selena Gomez's performance isn't so hot, and it feels like she was blatantly shoved in here to make the film more marketable to the teen set.
