A crushing disappointment from Ricky Gervais, his satirical caper flick fails to make good on the potential of a Gervais-Eric Bana pairing, because though their chemistry is evident throughout, Gervais' writing has never felt more slack or unfussed.

It's so low-effort it's tough to believe Gervais actually had a hand in it, and true to Netflix form, it roped in a supreme roster of acting talents, including Vera Farmiga, Kelly Macdonald, Benjamin Bratt, Kevin Pollak and America Ferrera.

It looks fine enough but Gervais basically just rehashes the character he almost always plays, the plot's a fuzzy mess, it's depressingly low on laughs, and the satirical content is far more obvious than Gervais clearly thinks it is.
