11. Mascots

While hardly a major return to form for Spinal Tap director Christopher Guest, Mascots is neverthelessly a harmlessly mild mockumentary that strikes a decent balance between mocking its "subjects" and giving them an earnest, full-hearted treatment.

It's not particularly smart or subtle, but driven by a terrific ensemble including Parker Posey, Zack Woods, Chris O'Dowd and Sarah Baker, there are some solid car-crash laughs to be had.

Steering clear of the expected sentiment while still approaching its subjects as human beings rather than mere punchlines, this is totally niche fare that belongs at home on Netflix as opposed to cinemas, but it'll probably still have you reaching for your Spinal Tap Blu-ray in future.
