9. Atomic Blonde
Thankfully, John Wick wasn't just a blip for director David Leitch and the stylistically brilliant Atomic Blonde will have been up there with the best actioners of 2017. It's also a Antony Johnston and Sam Hart's graphic novel The Coldest City, which fans might not have known going into it.
There's definitely an agenda here to be stylish that somewhat compromises on the substance, but there's enough enjoyment in the aesthetic and Charlize Theron's cool as ice central performance that make up for the plot issues. And the gleeful commitment to violence and action - in the same way as John Wick - is intoxicating and hugely entertaining.
Some of the supporting actors could have been given more to do, but Theron is captivating and seeing her show off her action credentials is one of the biggest surprises of the year.
