Every 2018 Oscar Nominee Ranked From Worst To Best
30. The Post
Nominations: 2 - Best Picture, Best Actress (Meryl Streep)
While The Post doesn't represent a particularly boundary-pushing effort for director Steven Spielberg, and there are probably a handful of actresses more deserving of a Best Actress nod than Meryl Streep, as an historical document, the political thriller is a highly entertaining romp.
Driven largely by the efforts of an incredible ensemble cast - arguably the best of the year, really - the dramatisation of The Washington Post's attempt to publish the Pentagon Papers is suspenseful, funny, and basically everything you should expect from a period collaboration between Spielberg and Tom Hanks.
Sure, it's minor Spielberg through and through, but it's an enormously relevant story in the age of Trump, and John Williams' score is nothing short of electrifying (yet was oddly snubbed in favour of his more conventional Star Wars score).
