Every 2018 Oscar Nominee Ranked From Worst To Best

6. Logan

Logan Hugh Jackman
Fox

Nominations: 1 - Best Adapted Screenplay

Though it was incredibly encouraging to see Logan become the first superhero film to ever score a screenplay nomination, the film was clearly deserving of more than it received.

While Hugh Jackman's outstanding work was never going to make the final five, there was probably room for Patrick Stewart to sneak a Best Supporting Actor nomination for his career-best turn as an aged, ill Charles Xavier.

Dispensing with effects-driven bloat, Logan is a more streamlined, grounded superhero film and all the better for it, focusing more on its characters than silly plot-lines and OTT action.

It has some of that, too, but it feels decidedly more earned after writer-director James Mangold took the time to invest the audience in his terrific cast of heroes.
