41. The Greatest Showman

Nominations: 1 - Best Original Song ("This Is Me")

The Greatest Showman was clearly conceived as an Oscar-baiting awards picture, and while it mostly fell far short of that potential, it is an entertainingly frothy musical to a point, a wilfully corny, over-the-top romp topped by a magnetic Hugh Jackman performance.

There are definite issues: Rebecca Ferguson's lip-sync is hilariously bad, the film completely ignores the less-savory aspects of P.T. Barnum's life and Michelle Williams is thoroughly wasted, but the campy, glitzy appeal does win out more often than not.

The silliness of the production, the catchiness of the songs, the snappy pace and committed performances make The Greatest Showman an infectious good time, even if you'll definitely want to switch your brain off before sitting down to watch it.
