Every 2019 Comic Book Movie Ranked Worst To Best

15. Hellboy

Over ten years after Ron Perlman's final appearance as Hellboy, the character was rebooted with David Harbour in the titular role, and Neil Marshall in the director's chair. After Deadpool opened the door to R rated comic book movies, Hellboy looked to capitalise, but ended up falling way, way short of the mark.

Though it seemed that this would be a much darker version of the franchise, the movie attempts a fair amount of humour and funny quips, none of which actually land as the titular character comes off as a moody teenager even going so far as to moan about 'homework'.

Other than Ian McShane, who is his usual charming self, none of the cast around Harbour exactly cover themselves in glory. Jovovich's villain was emotionless and quite honestly boring, Hellboy's two companions added nothing but bad accents, and Stephen Graham's scouse monster was as jarring as it was confusing.

Some of these points may have been redeemed if there were any strong aspects anywhere else throughout the movie, but the CGI was questionable at best and awful at worst, the dialogue was incredibly cringe-worthy, and far too much of the two hour run time was taken up with exposition after exposition.
