Every Ben Affleck Movie Ranked From Worst To Best
5. Argo (2012)
Affleck's third film is the big one, the one that won him the Best Picture Oscar and a bevy of Best Director accolades, though bafflingly not a directing nomination at the Oscars.
Argo is exactly the sort of crowd-pleasing take on a stranger-than-fiction event that goes down gangbusters with awards voters, in large part because so much of it is about the art of filmmaking itself, and the Academy loves little more than patting itself on the back, right?
But on its own merits, Argo is a terrifically entertaining and intense thriller documenting the real-life attempt to rescue six U.S. diplomats from Iran under the guise of making a sci-fi film.
What it lacks in historical accuracy and faithful casting - Affleck looks nothing like the real Tony Mendez - it mostly compensates with its well-placed humour, excellent acting (especially John Goodman and Alan Arkin), and pulsing suspense.
