Every Best Actor Oscar Movie Winner Of The 21st Century Ranked

4. Daniel Day-Lewis - Lincoln (2012)

Capote Philip Seymour Hoffman
20th Century Fox

Who should have won: Daniel Day-Lewis - Lincoln.

Undeniably one of the greatest actors of all time, Daniel Day-Lewis retired in 2017, leaving behind a career so rich with monumental performances it's a wonder he only won two Oscars since the turn of the century.

His final Oscar win came thanks to Steven Spielberg's epic drama Lincoln, where he plays the 16th President with an even mix of stern perseverance, layered intelligence, and endless charm. He also finds a way to be amusing, capturing a silly side to one of history's most beloved figures whilst acting as an unwavering beacon of decency.

Day-Lewis's ability to embody his characters - both fictional and real - is nothing short of exemplary, and his towering, amiable turn as Honest Abe is about as perfect as he's ever been on-screen. And it's not even his best performance!
