Every Best Actress Oscar Movie Winner Of The 21st Century Ranked
13. Olivia Colman - The Favourite (2018)
Who should have won: Glenn Close - The Wife.
Olivia Colman was just as shocked as everyone else when she beat the great Glenn Close to her long overdue first Oscar, but even though she maybe shouldn't have won that year, hers was still a revelatory performance worthy of its acclaim.
In Yorgos Lanthimos's wickedly funny period drama The Favourite, Colman plays Queen Anne as a sickly, cruel, unhinged leader who you can't help but somehow both hate to love and love to hate. Her infectious energy is astounding, and her balancing of witty black humour with poignant tragedy is masterful.
The Favourite was the film that allowed audiences to see just how great Colman could be as both a comedic and dramatic star, and since then her phenomenal career hasn't paused to take a breath. It's still a shame Close missed out, mind.
