Every Best Actress Oscar Movie Winner Of The 21st Century Ranked

14. Reese Witherspoon - Walk The Line (2005)

Reese Witherspoon Walk The Line
20th Century Fox

Who should have won: Charlize Theron - North Country.

The star of Walk the Line is of course Joaquin Phoenix and his flawless portrayal of the late Johnny Cash, but it's Reese Witherspoon's conflicted, loving June Carter who acts as its heart and soul.

Bringing to the role her typical level of confidence and endearing toughness, Witherspoon brilliantly hones in on the contradictory feelings of Carter, whose love for Cash never wavered, even when his vices began to overcome his life. She embodies Carter's love and adoration, as well as her indomitable spirit.

It's hard to think of an actress whose skills could have better suited June Carter's charisma and sheer lovability. Witherspoon has been more nuanced in other roles, but she's never been so comforting.
