Every Best Actress Oscar Movie Winner Of The 21st Century Ranked
20. Jessica Chastain - The Eyes Of Tammy Faye (2021)
Who should have won: Olivia Colman - The Lost Daughter.
The 2022 Best Actress race was a messy affair, with no obvious winner going into the ceremony. When Jessica Chastain finally won - beating superior work from Olivia Colman, Penelope Cruz, and Kristen Stewart - it proved a divisive decision.
Whilst it was great to see Chastain win given her long and celebrated career, it was an obvious victory complete with heavy prosthetics and little interest in subtlety. This can't all be blamed on Chastain herself, but The Eyes of Tammy Faye's so forgettable she's inevitably dragged down by its flaws.
In the film's louder, more exciting moments, Chastain is an absolute riot, bringing the entertainment at an almost relentless pace, but as a whole her work never fully comes together. Far from bad, just not great.
