Every Best Picture Oscar Winner Ranked Worst To Best
79. Wings (1927)
As the very first Best Picture winner, it’s great returning to Wings and realising how well it's aged…on a technical level, at least.
The influential silent war drama features gutsy flying sequences that were shot for real and still grip you with their innovation and excitement, though it’s let down in the end by a tepid love story that keeps it from really taking off. Its flying scenes and tracking shots, though, are worth sticking around for.
