91. The Greatest Show On Earth (1952)
Cecil B. DeMille is one of the greatest legends of cinema past, but even the greats have their missteps. For DeMille, one his biggest fumbles was The Greatest Show on Earth, an eccentric, over-the-top drama with little substance behind the visuals.
Between the film’s overreliance on splendour and awkward characters - including James Stewart as a mysterious clown - nothing ever properly comes together to make the 160-minute slog worth finishing. You should watch Singin’ in the Rain instead, the (unnominated) film that really should’ve won that year.
