Every Best Picture Oscar Winner Ranked Worst To Best
53. All The King's Men (1949)
Political dramas are a key staple of many Best Picture winners, and Robert Rossen's thrilling character study All the King's Men is one of the best the genre has to offer, telling the story of ruthless politician Willie Stark as he succumbs to corruption.
Adapted from the 1946 novel, the film is a striking exercise in performance, with star Broderick Crawford giving his all as a troubled man ravaged by politics. But it's also remarkable how tightly plotted it is, its thrills and twists holding up well enough to make it far better than Sean Penn's disastrous 2006 remake.
