Every Bond Movie Pre-Title Scene Ranked - Worst To Best

10. Moonraker (1979)

When it comes to our ideas of the opening scenes of Bond films, we typically imagine death-defying stunts and outrageous action. In that respect, Moonraker has perhaps the most impressive of them all as 007 is pushed out of an airplane without a parachute.

It’s the worst nightmare of many, as Bond truly appears doomed to fall to his death. Of course, if he weren’t capable of keeping his head in the face of danger, he wouldn't be 007. Bond controls his fall to catch up with a backpack-equipped baddie, fighting him in mid-air(!) to steal his parachute. There’s no CGI to be seen here, no green-screen wizardry - it’s a simple, masterful piece of stunt-work.

Of course, it wouldn’t be a Roger Moore Bond film without at least one silly gag, and much like it does throughout the film, it’s taken a little too far here. The incredible opening is tarnished ever so slightly by the sight of Jaws later lapping his arms like a bird and falling into a circus tent. Still, if there’s only one scene you remember from Moonraker, let it be this one.

Best moment: Acrophobiacs beware; the stomach-dropping sight of 007 free falling is not for the faint of heart. Where most of us would be screaming incomprehensibly, however, Bond plays it cool.

Chest thumping James Bond and Haruki Murakami fanatic living in China. Once had a fever dream about riding a rowboat with Davos Seaworth. He hasn't updated this section since Game of Thrones was cool, and boy does it show.
